DKS Doorking 75 Years

In 1971, DoorKing began work that would establish the company as the foremost designer and manufacturer of Slide and Swing Gate Operators. It was in that year that the company created the first models, the 480 and 600 Gate Operators, marking the inception of our expertise in this field. Building upon this foundation, DoorKing continued to pioneer advancements by introducing solid-state Gate Operator circuit boards in 1977, ushering in a new era of efficiency and reliability in Gate Operation technology. By 1981, DoorKing had not only solidified its own position as an innovator but had also begun to share its groundbreaking products with other fence and gate installers.

The introduction of pivotal innovations such as Plug-in Loop Detectors, Magnetic Limit Settings, and the industry’s first Microprocessor-based Control Circuit showcased DoorKing’s commitment to redefining Gate Operators. This trailblazing spirit has cemented DoorKing’s reputation as the premier authority in Slide and Swing Gate Operators, consistently setting industry standards through innovative solutions that enhance security and convenience for countless properties.

How to Choose a Gate Operator

Many factors are important when choosing the right Gate Operator for a property, below are some of the main considerations when deciding which AGate Operator is best suited to an application.

Gate Type

The correct Gate Operator will need to be chosen based on the presence of a Swing or Slide Gate. The type of gate is often dictated by the landscape of the property, including available space, pitch of the land, and other factors.

Standalone & Entry System Dependent Devices

Some Gate Operators can be installed at an access point and manage user and guest access internally, while others require an installed Entry System for programming and operation. Small properties with one access point may choose a standalone product while more complex locations with multiple entry points will need an Entry System.

Gate Length & Weight

The level of power required by the Gate Operator will be dictated by the gate length and weight, with larger gates requiring a more powerful Gate Operator.

Open & Close Speed

For safety and convenience, a more powerful Gate Operator with a faster open and close rate can be selected.

Mounting Options

When aesthetics are the priority, users will choose a more low-profile or even gate-mounted Gate Operator to let the gate stand in the spotlight.

Number of Users

Single-family residential properties may choose a light duty Gate Operator while a larger multi-unit facility will want to choose a continuous use Gate Operator designed to withstand many cycles per day.
