Voice Over IP (VoIP) Adapter
Provide Internet connectivity for System Programming and/or Voice Communication to eVolve Series, 1830 Series, Access Plus, and Standard/1812 Series Entry Systems. Our customers choose a VoIP connection option if they have an ethernet connection convenient to the Entry System location. VoIP Retrofit is also a great option for those currently using a POTS connection. For a turnkey Easy Connect internet option: a VoIP connection powered by the DKS Internet Service subscription is the plug-and-play solution.
Voice Over IP (VoIP) Adapter
The Wired Internet Connection Option for Entry Systems
VoIP is a turnkey, wired solution for connecting System Managers and Users to their Access Control System.
Â
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a general term for the technology used to provide Voice communication over an Internet connection. This technology, like our Cellular connection option, has replaced the original POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) copper line connection that has been phased out.
While the 2112 eVolve Entry System has built-in VoIP compatibility for Voice and Remote Programming, the other eVolve Series Entry Systems, 1830 Series, Access Plus, and Standard/1812 Series Entry Systems can be fitted with an optional VoIP Adapter to provide Voice communication to all other DKS Entry Systems* through the local Internet connection powered by a DKS Internet Service subscription. The VoIP connection also enables completely remote programming for DKS Entry Systems in the eVolve, 1830 Series, and Access Plus Series using one of the DKS Easy Connect Programming options. A VoIP connection is a great option for locations that have access to an internet line near the Entry System location, and for users who want to update from their original POTS connection – plus, it’s more affordable than a traditional business line.

Still Using a POTS Internet Connection? Save Money and Avoid Loss of Service with a New VoIP Adapter
A POTS Connection is no longer recommended or supported by DKS. DKS has phased out support for POTS connections as phone companies nationwide are transitioning to fiber and, in the near future, will no longer service the copper lines needed for the POTS connection. DKS recommends switching to a VoIP or Cellular connection, you’ll save money each month and avoid a loss of Entry System service. Typical business phone lines run between $100 to $200 per month, PLUS the expense of long distance charges, while a VoIP connection will cost just a fraction of that monthly.
The DKS VoIP Adapter is also the VoIP Retrofit Option
The VoIP Adapter is fully backward compatible with new and older DKS Entry Systems so it’s easy to keep your Entry System up and running with the latest Internet connectivity option.Â
There are a few VoIP Adapter options based on which Entry System you are using, and if you want connectivity for Voice and/Or Programming. Please consult the Tech Support documentation or speak with a Dealer to find the right DKS VoIP Adapter and configuration for you.
The VoIP Adapter Connects Your Entry System with the DKS Internet Service
A DKS Internet Service subscription is required when using a VoIP Adapter. This enables the Entry System to utilize the VoIP connection for Voice Communicatio and/or Entry System Programming via Cloud Account Manager or Windows Account Manager. DKS Internet Service is a flat rate monthly or yearly subscription service without any long term contracts and includes all taxes, fees and charges for voice and/or data communication. There is a 5% per month discount offered if auto-pay (via credit card or echeck) is selected. The monthly subscription price will be determined by your usage volume.
A VoIP Connection is Recommended for Those With Convenient Access to an Ethernet Port
A wired connection to a local Internet router is required in order for the VoIP Adapter to enable communication with DKS Internet Services. Depending on the configuration of your VoIP Adapter installation the maximum length for the run of the ethernet wire is 325-500 ft.
To Use a Third Party VoIP Provider, Choose the 1830-185 TCP/IP Adapter
1830-185 Third Party TCP/IP Adapter enables a DKS Entry System to utilize a third-party VoIP Internet connection rather than the DKS VoIP Internet Service. While the DKS VoIP Adapter is plug-and-play and requires no configuration of routers, port forwarding, IP addresses, firewalls or DDNS services to deal with, the Third Party TCP/IP Adapter requires manual setup by an IT Technician and your own VoIP provider. While many VoIP services will work with the 1830 Entry System, DKS does not guarantee compatibility with these third-party providers.
