VoIP Internet Connection
Customers who have access to an ethernet port at the site of their Entry System can choose a hardwired Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Internet Connection to enable communication between the Entry System and the computers, tablets, or smartphones used for System Programming, and for Guest Voice Communication between the Entry System and phone numbers designated to the property. DKS Entry Systems are compatible with third-party VoIP services such as Vonage, or customers can easily sign up for a DKS VoIP account.
Choosing a VoIP Internet Connection
All DKS Entry Systems except the 1816 Intercom System are compatible with a DKS VoIP Connection. Some Entry Systems are ready to Plug and Play with the Cellular Control Box while some older Entry Systems require our Cellular Retrofit option. Read below for an overview of the two options, use the button below to get more details and learn about Entry System compatibility.
Built-in DKS VoIP
The eVolve Series of Entry Systems are the only DKS Entry Systems with built-in DKS VoIP Internet Connection capability, right out of the box. All that’s needed is a registered IM Server account and the eVolve Series is ready to go out of the box.
Optional VoIP Adapter & Retrofit
The optional DKS VoIP Adapter can be installed on any DKS Entry System* to enable an internet connection on the DKS VoIP network. Once installed and the DKS VoIP account is activated, this option provides plug-and-play Internet connectivity to any DKS Entry System. The optional DKS VoIP Adapter is also fully backward compatible, meaning any older or previously installed DKS Entry Systems* using a POTS Connection can be easily retrofitted and updated to a DKS VoIP Internet connection with the DKS VoIP Adapter.
Third Party Manual VoIP Adapter & Retrofit
The Third Party VoIP Adapter is compatible with all DKS Entry Systems* and makes it possible for experienced users to set up their own Internet connection via a non-DKS third-party VoIP service. This Adapter is backward compatible with older or previously installed DKS Entry Systems*. DKS does not guarantee third-party VoIP service connections.
Cellular Internet Connection
For remote locations without access to installed internet service, choose our most versatile option: a Cellular Internet Connection. Using the same technology as mobile phones, our Cellular Connection Box or Cellular Retrofit (?) enables communication to computers, tablets, and smartphones for System Programming — from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. The Cellular Internet Connection also enables voice communication between the Entry System and phone numbers designated to the property.
Choosing a Cellular Internet Connection
All DKS Entry Systems except the 1816 Intercom System are compatible with a DKS Cellular Internet Connection. Some Entry Systems are ready to Plug and Play with the Cellular Control Box while some older Entry Systems require our Cellular Retrofit option (or an upgraded circuit board?). Read below for an overview of the two options, use the button below to get more details and learn about Entry System compatibility.
Built-in Cellular Capability
The eVolve 2112 is the only DKS Entry System with built-in Cellular Internet Connection capability, right out of the box. All that’s needed is a dedicated Cellular line and the 2112 is ready to go out of the box once the Cellular service account is activated.
Optional Cellular Control Box
No ethernet connection at the Entry System location? The Cellular Connection Box eliminates the need to dig trenches or run ethernet lines out to the Entry System for a VoIP connection. The optional Cellular Control Box can be quickly installed on any DKS Entry System and, once Cellular service is activated, provides an internet connection for complete System Programming and/or Guest Voice Communication over the Cellular network.
Retrofit an Entry System with the Cellular Control Box
The optional Cellular Control Box is backward compatible, meaning most older or previously installed DKS Entry Systems* using a POTS Connection can be easily retrofitted and updated to a Cellular Internet connection with the DKS Cellular Control Box. In addition to the benefits of 4G LTE service, DKS Cellular saves money in two ways. 1. There’s no need to completely replace a functional Entry System, and 2. The monthly cost of the DKS Cellular service is typically half the cost of a business telephone line. With the DKS Cellular Retrofit, there’s no digging or trenching – just have it plugged in and activate the service.
*Excludes the 1816 Intercom System. Talk to a DKS Dealer to confirm Entry System compatibility.
POTS Connection
Once the only connection option in the early days of Entry Systems, a Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) connection provides traditional guest voice communication from the Entry System. When paired with the DKS IM Server Modem™ customers with 1830 Series and Access Plus Series Telephone Entry Systems have been able to utilize the benefits of the Windows Account Manager Software, or Cloud Programming for 1830 Series Systems only.
A POTS Connection is No Longer Recommended or Supported by DKS
DKS has phased out support for POTS connections as phone companies nationwide are transitioning to fiber and, in the near future, will no longer service the copper lines needed for the POTS connection. DKS recommends selecting a Cellular or VoIP connection, you’ll save money each month and avoid a loss of Entry System service.
