How to Choose an Access Control Product

Many factors are important when choosing the right Access Control product for a property, below are some of the main considerations when deciding which Access Control products are best suited to an application.

Standalone & Entry System Dependent Devices

Some Access Control products can be installed at an access point and manage user and guest access internally, while others require an installed Entry System for programming and operation. Small properties with one access point may choose a standalone product while more complex locations with multiple entry points will need an Entry System.

Access Point Types

The configuration of the entry point often determines the type of Access Control product needed, such as the type of lock needed for a gate or door, how much room is available for the product to be installed, and other factors.

User Entry Options

The desired method of user entry will also dictate the Access Control product needed — some properties will utilize a Keypad with codes, others will choose to issue Cards or RF Remotes.

Programming Options

Smaller properties may be satisfied with programming the Access Control product manually through the Keypad or using Control Cards or IR Remote, while larger properties require more efficient programming using the Entry System Programmer such as the Cloud or Desktop Remote Programmer.
